Advocacy
As part of its mission CWASU is committed to trying to make a difference for women and children in the UK. One of the ways we try to achieve this is through making formal submissions to government consultation documents. We see our role as drawing on the current research knowledge base with reference to the proposals. In recent years this has become a bigger part of our work, as more policy areas that directly and indirectly relate to gender violence have come under scrutiny.
Our advocacy work also includes being part of panels and meetings organised by campaigning organisations to raise awareness and influence public policy. Examples here include:
- End Violence Against Women Coalition;
- the Campaign to End Rape;
- Justice for Women;
- SAY Women;
- Southall Black Sisters;
- the YWCA.
